3 Great Selling Tips For Kids

As a kid, it can sometimes be a little intimidating to sell something, even if it’s for a cause they’re passionate about, and a product they’re excited about. Talking to friends and family, or even strangers to sell something can be a new experience, but it doesn’t have to be an overwhelming one, and it can actually create a lot of self-confidence when done the right way! Let’s take a look at three great selling tips kids can use when selling products for a fundraiser.

1. Make Sure They Know The Product

Most kids already know what popcorn is, but it’s important that they know the ‘ins and outs’ of what they’re selling; what types of popcorn, what it’s for, etc. That way, they can get excited about it. Most kids will be happy to be able to ‘show off’ their knowledge of what they’re selling, and tell people themselves. This can also be a huge boost to their confidence; when you, as a parent, allow your kids to take the wheel and explain the products to potential customers, they’re more likely to get excited about it, and get the customers excited as well.

2. Let Them Keep Track Of Their Progress

If your child is motivated by actually seeing what they’ve accomplished, and what they can accomplish, create a simple chart or spreadsheet that documents their progress in sales so far. You can even create small goals for them, which can make them even more excited to get out there and achieve them! Don’t treat these progress charts as a way of pressuring your child, but instead, celebrating their success in sales.

3. Get Them Started With People You Know

If your child is new to selling, it’s okay to talk to your friends, family members, co-workers, etc. beforehand and let them know what the fundraiser is about. But, let your child be the one to make the sales. If it starts with people they know, they can eventually get more comfortable with their approach, and possibly sell to strangers or people in the neighborhood.
