4 Things To Do In Meridian Township This Summer

There are lots of things to do in Meridian Township (@meridiantwp on Twitter). As summer approaches and kids are taking a break from school, you don’t have to be stuck at home playing in the backyard. While you can always hop on a CATA bus to trek to Michigan State to see the Broad, Spartan Stadium or further to downtown Lansing to tour our state capitol, you can also play games at one of the great parks in Okemos, East Lansing and Haslett.

Here are 4 things to do in Meridian Township this summer

1. Meridian Farmers Market: Open Saturday mornings during May and June. They add Wednesday to the mix during July through October. The market is located at the pavilion behind the township offices. Farmers from around the state come to sell fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables. This market has grown through the years and draws a big crowd. Learn more by visiting their site.

2. Harris Nature Center: You know how the song goes, “These trails were made for walking and that’s just what you will do” or something like that. According to the Harris Nature Center web page, “The Harris Nature Center is located between Jolly Road and Grand River Avenue on Van Atta Road. It is on the east side of the road, just south of the Red Cedar River.”

What can you do? Walk the trails, see animal exhibits, bird watching and explore nature.

3. Miles Of Bike/Walking Paths: You can ride for miles through and around Okemos and Haslett on paved trails. A comprehensive map of the trails can be viewed by clicking their link. You can literally ride from from Haslett to East Lansing and pick up paths that will take you to the west or south side of the River Trail in Lansing.

4. Tricycle Track at Lake Lansing: One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to ride tricycles/big wheels at Lake Lansing. Going around the concrete track as fast as I can was a joy. It’s amazing, forty years later the track is still there. Make sure you take your young kids to this tricycle race track.
